Arrested in Saudi Arabia: About 15,000 migrants detained

Saudi Arabia is cracking down on illegal immigrants. About 15,000 migrants have been detained in raids in the last one week. The country’s police arrested 14 thousand 750 immigrants on charges of violating the residency law, labor law and border law.

Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports (Jawajat), Saudi Arabia’s various security and defense forces, in a joint operation, these expatriates were detained.

The operation was conducted from August 25 to August 31. During this time, 8 thousand 684 people were detained for violating the residency law, 4 thousand 28 people for violating the border law and another 2 thousand 38 immigrants were detained for violating the labor law.

Meanwhile, another 225 people were detained while crossing the border illegally and entering Saudi Arabia. Among them, 30 percent are Yemenis, 58 percent are Ethiopians and 12 percent are citizens of other countries.

34 people were arrested while fleeing from Saudi Arabia. Apart from this, another 22 people were detained for helping migrants entering Saudi Arabia to cross the border, with transportation and shelter.
