COVID-19 Updates: Effective Moderna Vaccine

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that the effectiveness of Moderna’s vaccine is staying especially strong, with a new report showing that it has been working in 96% of cases. The company released COVID-19 updates on Tuesday to show how effective their vaccine has been in recent months.

Moderna’s vaccine has been tested on three different strains of the flu virus, including H1N1, Influenza B and -C.

The company claims that their vaccine is superior to other vaccines used for flu prevention. Moderna’s update shows how their COVID-19 was able to protect 96% of subjects against the H3N2 strain, which is one of the more frequently distributed types of flu in recent months.

The CDC stated that there was a high number of H3N2 present in their most recent reporting periods, and Moderna’s data seems to back up this claim. COVID-19 also showed higher immune response when tested against Influenza B.

CEO of Moderna Therapeutics Nadeem Sarwar said, “The 96% efficacy rate against H3N2 virus is particularly encouraging given the severity of this year’s season. The life-threatening nature of influenza drives us to make significant advancements every season, and we are extremely pleased with these results”.

The data by Moderna Therapeutics comes as the season has been one of the more severe in recent years. The CDC reports that there have been over four thousand flu-related deaths so far, and numerous cases have shown up just this week . There is still time to get vaccinated, but it’s important to act quickly if you haven’t yet.

A new strain of the flu virus develops every year, and this means that there is a need for an immune response that can fight against this specific strain. This is where Moderna’s vaccine shows its advantages: it has been shown to work on 96% of tests using different strains of the flu, which proves how effective their method is.

The company’s update comes at a great time as the flu season has been particularly harsh this year, and more people are likely to get it. Moderna claims that 96% of all H3N2 cases have been prevented thanks to their vaccine, which also had high efficacy on Influenza B. The effectiveness of COVID-19 may lead to the company’s stock increasing, which has been gradually increasing over the past couple of months.
