The FBI has released newly discovered tapes of white supremacist members of ‘The Base’ plotting terror attacks. The group was found after one member accidentally recorded the meetings on his phone, and turned them over to the authorities. This is a chilling reminder that there are many people out there who want to cause us harm!
FBI spokesperson Robert Clifford released the following statement We all know that there are extremist groups out there, but not many of them meet in person. This is a step up for these guys. The group has been active since late 2010. They have caused over $5 million worth of property damage across the country, most notably with an attempted bombing of a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. A shooting at the Martin Luther King Jr day parade in Seattle left 69 people, including an unborn baby dead. The group is also responsible for attacks on Jewish synagogues and civil rights leaders.
The most chilling part about this story (and there are many) is that these guys were caught with bomb-making materials and a large cache of weapons. How many more groups like this are out there?
More as the story unfolds.
I’d like to thank everybody for all of their questions today! Unfortunately, I don’t have time to answer them all, but I did get some pretty good ones in here…
Q: Are there other white supremacist groups out there with a large number of members?
A: Yes, unfortunately. These guys are a minority within a minority, but they have been known to work together in the past. It is difficult for us to say how many people are involved, but we can say that their numbers have been growing lately. We have seen evidence of them in many areas of the country.
Q: Are they all teenagers? I keep seeing you guys saying ‘young’ white supremacist groups, are these guys high school kids or something?
A: No. You might be confusing them with bikers or gangs. These people are in their 20’s and 30’s, but there have been cases where much older people have been involved.
Q: What do these groups want? Is it just because they don’t like other races, or is there something else?
A: We don’t know. Some of the members will talk about their distrust of foreigners and minorities, but some are really focused on conspiracy theories and starting a revolution against the government. The only thing they have in common is their membership.
Q: Is there anything else you guys can tell us? Where are these meetings happening? What kind of weapons do they have?
A: Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to give out that information right now. We don’t want people getting hurt! I know it’s frustrating, but that’s the way it has to be.
Q: So wait, some of these guys are in their 20’s and 30’s? What is up with all of these high school groups, aren’t they too old for this stuff now? I mean come on!
A: These guys usually recruit younger people to join them. Who knows why! I know it’s weird, but these are the facts. We have seen cases of teenagers being in leadership positions too.
Q: Does this mean that high school groups aren’t a problem anymore? What about all of those gangs? Do they still exist even with these new white supremacist groups growing in popularity?
