Senegalese forward Sadio Mane has selected as the best footballer of the year in Africa for the second time. The award was handed over to him yesterday in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.
Earlier this Liverpool star was selected as the best footballer in 2019. This time, however, the 30-year-old forward has crowned the player of the year as a Bayern Munich player.
Mane left Liverpool for Bayern Munich last month on a three-year deal.
After 2019, two of the annual award ceremonies have canceled due to the Corona pandemic. But this time Mane won the best award again.
From that point of view, star mane got this award for the second time in a row. He beat former Liverpool team-mate Egyptian star Mohamed Salah
and compatriot international and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to win the Borsera award.
Last season Salah-Mane duo showed extraordinary skills in Premier League and Champions League for Liverpool.
In addition to winning the FA Cup and English Cup titles in that season, Liverpool also finished as runners-up in the English Premier League and Champions League.
Salah later signed a new contract with Anfield but did not follow that path. He moved to Bayern Munich. According to media reports, he joined Bayern for 32 million euros, but that could rise to 41 million.
Mane was instrumental in Senegal’s mission to beat Salah-led Egypt in the playoffs to qualify for the 2021/2022 Africa Cup of Nations final and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The two matches played in Cameroon and Senegal were the best matches of the African continent. And Teranga Lions won both matches in tiebreakers.
Both tiebreakers meant Mane scored, but the Africa Nations final decided before Salah even took a shot. And in the World Cup playoffs, Salah’s shot went off the goal post.
Born in a village 400 kilometers from Dakar, Maze caught the eye of the club authorities while playing for local third division club Generation Foot.
He snapped up Southampton when his reputation spread to Salzburg. He joined Liverpool in 2016 after scoring a rare Premier League hat-trick in just 176 seconds against Aston Villa.
Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp described him as a ‘complete forward’ after joining Liverpool from Southampton.
Klopp also said at the time, “My only criticism of Sadio Mane is that he is probably the only player who doesn’t realize how big he is.”🔱
