Span falls in Pittsburgh, 3 hospitalized

 

A scaffold imploded in Pittsburgh on Friday morning, sending three individuals to neighborhood emergency clinics with non-hazardous wounds, authorities said.

Five vehicles and a Port Authority transport were on the scaffold at the hour of the breakdown, around 6:39 a.m. neighborhood time, city authorities said.

Port Authority transport driver Daryl Luciani told ABC Pittsburgh offshoot WTAE he was rolling over the scaffold when he could feel it falling.

I could simply feel it. The transport was bobbing and shaking, he said.

Ten individuals detailed minor wounds, including the three who were hospitalized, Pittsburgh Fire Chief Darryl Jones said. Specialists on call attempting to help in the frosty conditions were among the harmed, he said.

Responders rappelled around 150 feet to arrive at the breakdown site, Jones said. Teams likewise made human chains to lead salvages.

Authorities are currently attempting to ensure there are no casualties under the imploded span, Jones said.

The reason for the breakdown is being scrutinized.
