The House vote that Nancy Pelosi pulled the plug on twice. It sounds like a bad horror movie. The bill was for infrastructure investment, but the progressive wing of her own party threatened to sink it over environmental provisions in the legislation.
Conservatives in the House also opposed it, but the Democrats were the party that killed their own bill.
So instead of voting on a $2 trillion infrastructure plan, lawmakers will vote this week on disaster relief and then adjourn for the summer without taking action to help struggling American families. And when they return in September, there’s not much time left to do anything before the election in November 2020.
The bill was scheduled for a vote on Tuesday, but when it appeared that only half of House Democrats were going to support it, Pelosi called off the vote at 5:15 p.m. A second vote scheduled for Wednesday also fell through, and the House will now adjourn until early October.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus said it would not back the bill over environmental provisions in the legislation that include exemptions from certain rules and regulations for federal funding of projects in low-income communities and minority areas. Pelosi also worried that some lawmakers weren’t going to support the bill, making passage even more difficult.
Although Democrats like to talk about how they care about the environment, this is a prime example of how Democrat leaders put politics before people. Their actions continue to show that they are more interested in pitting Americans against each other rather than tackling issues that will help struggling families across the country.
They voted twice to prevent a vote on infrastructure because it included provisions aimed at improving the environment. They didn’t want to vote for a bill that would help Americans because it might make them look bad if they were going against their own environmentalist agenda.
Democrats also don’t want to anger their K Street lobbyists, who oppose better environmental standards as an impediment to the economy. In the end, Democrats put politics before people, and Americans are the ones who get hurt.
Pelosi said she was disappointed that there wouldn’t be a vote on infrastructure this week, but House Democrats will keep working to pass it before the end of the year. However, with Congress adjourned until early October, it may be difficult to pass anything by November 2020 if Democrats want to run on a platform of inaction.
They’re going to have to try really hard if they want to convince Americans they deserve reelection after letting this bill die twice and canceling votes which could’ve helped struggling families across the country. This is what Democrat leaders do when they don’t get their way: They put politics before people and hurt the ones who need help the most.
This is why Americans don’t trust Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats to do what’s right for the country. They play games with legislation that could help millions of people and then, when they’re on the verge of victory, they pull out because it might make them look bad if they pass a bill with a few environmental protections.
This is exactly why Americans are fed up with the left and will choose someone else to lead our country in 2020. We need change, not more of the same old nonsense from people who don’t care about anyone but themselves. It’s time for Congress to start listening to their constituents again and make good on its promises to help Americans. And if they can’t do that, then we need new leaders who will.
We need a President Donald Trump . Help us fight back against the unhinged left and keep our country great.
